#1:
“WAIT!”
My cry split the early morning silence with surprising intensity. She turned, already halfway down the hall.
“What?”
“What if I told you I love you?”
Her deadened eyes found mine. “Love is freedom, not a lasso. Don’t use it like one.”
She walked on, having seen through me.
#2:
The capybara lazily munched on the riverbed’s plentiful grasses. The river had afforded her a bountiful life.
The jaguar’s body tensed, anticipation coursing through her. She had little time. Hunger wracked her body. Starvation would take her any day now.
Life and death watched as their trade was conducted.
