No, these are not the themes of the latest lifetime mini-series about a wealthy-heiress who loses her fortune to a conniving young heartthrob, but rather a dramatic storyline unfolding in the NBA. Because in the NBA, much like in the most captivating corners of reality television, it is all about two things: money and diamonds. Diamond rings, to be more specific.

In 2017, Kevin Durant abandoned his teammates in Oklahoma City, namely his partner in crime and fellow superstar, Russell Westbrook, to greedily pursue glory in California. Like many, he was captivated with the glamour of the West Coast, and positioned himself on the Golden State Warriors amongst a star-studded cast of prime time players. You see, Durant had one goal in mind: to win a championship ring. To achieve this goal Durant had to undergo a powerful transformation.

Generosity. Camaraderie. Unselfishness. These are new ideals he had to embrace in order to achieve greatness. And in the end, he was rewarded for his efforts. The Golden State Warriors gracefully embodied the principles of teamwork, sharing the ball like no team before them, easily sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers to win the NBA Championship.

Durant may have a shiny new diamond ring on his finger, but others hands are bare and wanting. They are hungry for blood. Westbrook has a new partner in crime in the shape of Paul George, and he is ready to fight for his own chance at glory.
