Mascot Story Ethan Vink

Miles looked across the field at all of his friends. It was a beautiful Sunday and he so wanted to frolic and play along. He watched as Trevor and Von ran zig zag laps and marveled at Aqib’s speed and agility. What good was being a bronco if you weren’t allowed to run wild and free?

For hundreds of years wild broncos roamed the fields and mountains of Colorado. Most people don’t know that a bronco is a term not a breed. A bronco is a wild horse that has never been trained or broken. Most have lived in the wild their entire life. Bronco is a Spanish word meaning “rough” mostly because they are prone to unpredictable behavior, particularly bucking.

Miles was born on January 31, 1999 high in the Rockies of Colorado. It was a night of wild storms with huge bolts of lightning and deafening crashes of thunder. For the next year, Miles lived there with all of the other wild Broncos. The herd that raised him taught him how to survive the cold climate and high altitude. The herd also taught Miles about all of the great Broncos traditions.

In the spring of 2001 when Miles was two he decided it was time to leave the mountains. While he loved the beautiful mountain sides he dreamed of grazing in a place where the pastures were green year round. He stood on peak, a mile high, scanning the scenery in the distance when suddenly he saw it. The most beautiful green field he had ever seen, way down in the city of Denver. Mile knew that was where he belonged.

When he arrived, he was both surprised and delighted to find that the beautiful green field he had seen from the mountain top was that of the greatest stadium in the world and the home to more of his beloved Broncos, Miles High!

For the first time, Miles thought to himself, “l am truly home where I belong”. Everyone at the stadium loved Miles and the turf management team appreciated how he kept the turf so nicely trimmed. But what Miles loves most of all are days like this when all of his Bronco friends are playing at the stadium, because then he gets to cheer on his favorite team and be the Bronco he was meant to be!
