Secret kiss in Tokyo
To live in a 12mi² apartment in the 53rd floor is a common way of living in Tokyo. To spend more than 10 minutes in your elevator to get to your 12m2 is part of your routine. The elevators are places where the most absurd conversations are born or, where the most tense silences are carried out or where you can even witness others people daily lives. Small parentheses in your day to day where time stops and usually uncomfortable situations happen.
After a week living in the same building, two European couples met in the elevator a Saturday night. The two men where quite drunk and their wives where carrying them around the building. They got in the elevator, they politely said hello to each other and stood in silence until de 35th floor, where the elevator collapsed.
They were stuck in the 35th floor. One couple was from London, Charlotte and Brian, they were renting an Airbnb for their honey moon in the 43rd floor. The other couple were from Lisbon, Tomás and Sofia, and they were celebrating their 15th anniversary.
As you one can imagine, the four of them immediately started to panic. They didn’t understand any of the information signals so Brian and Tomas pressed randomly any button. The atmosphere started to get more and more tense. Sofia and Charlotte stood in silence while their husbands raved. As good machos they decided to figure out on their own how to make it work again. So they found the little door that takes you to the machinery and left their wives stuck alone. Charlotte and Sofia were standing in silence in front of each other. Curiously there was no uncomfortable tense. Both of them secretly agreed how annoying were their husbands and how they couldn’t stand them anymore. A humid heat atmosphere kept on growing and Sofia and Charlotte broke down to sweat.
Thy closed their eyes and kissed. For a long time. Kissed and hugged and cried.
Brian and Tomas came back down and asked their wives if they were okay, each of them hugged their beloved wife and pressed the button to their apartments. The elevator was working again.
That night, Sofia and Charlotte dreamed about that secret kiss and with the idea of being stuck again in an elevator.
