“Now what goes after the circle?”

“A square”, Helen said. A square would go there since the pattern has been circle circle, square, circle circle, square.

“Are you sure?” asked Dr. Liechtenstein. “I think another circle goes there.”

“No, a square.”

“Very well.”  He wrote down her answers along with notes.

“Her critical thinking skills are high. Too high. She can go with the others. We can’t afford to have them amongst the rest during the transition.”

“Very well, I’ll inform the parents.”

Helen was one of many children sent away and exiled to a secluded island.

Their intelligence and inability to blindly follow were viewed as dangerous.

The United States could not have thrived and prospered if its citizens were taught free thought. Questions would have invited debate and inevitably dissent. For a unified state, there can be no questioning.

America can only be led by those who follow.
